Chinese Government Scholarship

Chinese Government Scholarships (CGS) enable outstanding students, teachers and scholars from all over the world to study and conduct research in China. Aiming at supporting cooperation and exchanges, we are looking forward to welcoming people who are passionate, insightful, and willing to devote themselves to promoting mutual understanding and providing solutions, so as to create a better shared future for mankind.

The CGS sponsors 4 categories: undergraduate, postgraduate (master’s and doctoral students), general scholars and senior scholars. By providing funding which include tuition, accommodation, stipend and medical insurance, it allows scholarship holders to study or research in a wide variety of academic programs in 289 Chinese universities.

With the CGS, you will not only develop your academic knowledge and professional skills, extend your network through meeting with people from different civilizations and building long-lasting relationships, but also experience Chinese profound history and splendid culture, equip yourself with necessary abilities which may lead you to a promising future.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health both mentally and physically.
  • be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for undergraduate programs;
  • be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;
  • be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs;
  • be a high school graduate (at least) under the age of 45 when applying for general scholar programs;
  • be a master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for senior scholar programs.

Field of study categories:

  • Field of Study I includes Philosophy, Economics, Legal Studies, Education, Literature (Fine Arts excluded), History, and Management;
  • Field of Study II includes Science, Engineering, and Agriculture;
  • Field of Study III includes Fine Arts and Medicine.

How to apply

The deadline for application to Chinese Government Scholarship 2023/2024 is 10th February, 2023

To enable the Confucius Institute at the University of Glasgow to submit a letter of recommendation for you, scanned copies of your supporting documents should also be emailed to us at: confucius-enquiries@glasgow.ac.uk at least three working days before the application deadline.

You can apply for admission offers at your preferred host institution in China before you secure an offer of scholarship, and this might increase your chance of winning the scholarship.

You can search the wide variety of programs offered by the Chinese Universities, which could enrol students with the Scholarship, at: www.campuschina.org.
