University of Glasgow
This Scottish Middleware Project conference will look at the crucial role of directory services and people information in providing services and access to information. It will cover the issues of defining identity, ensuring that there is a consistent identity across systems, the part that directories and good quality information play in providing consistent identity and the rols of Lightweight Diractory Access Protocol (LDAP) is allowing the wide range of systems that need to know about identity to draw their information from a unified source. The day will be a combination of presentations, discussion of issues and case studies consisting of the UHI Millenium Institute which is able to start from a relatively clean sheet and the University of Glasgow which has to develop its approach taking account of both history and complexity.
The conference draws its speakers from UKERNA, UHI Millenium Institute, Independent Consultancy and the Scottish Middleware Project:-
The conference is aimed at a wide range of staff in Scottish HEIs who may be thinking about the future of directory services (NDS, AD, LDAP, etc.) at their institution. It is being run by the Scottish Middleware Project; a SHEFC funded collaborative project involving the Universities of Glasgow, St Andrews and Paisley and the Royal Academy of Music and Drama. The project is investigating the underlying technologies and information issues in the development of Intranets. More information about the project is available at: http://www.gla.ac.uk/scotmid/
