Our research in rehabilitation engineering focuses on translating cutting-edge engineering into clinical impact, with a strong emphasis on neurological disorders.
Areas of expertise include neurorehabilitation, functional recovery, human motor control, and exercise-based therapies.
Working closely with clinical partners—such as the Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries Unit—we conduct research embedded within care settings, ensuring our work directly benefits patients. We are also a founding member of the Scottish Centre for Innovation in Spinal Cord Injury, contributing to a national effort in advancing spinal cord injury rehabilitation.
Our work spans from investigating fundamental principles of balance and movement control to developing and applying advanced technologies such as electrical neuromuscular stimulation, robotic devices, and Brain-Computer Interfaces.
We also explore assistive technologies to support individuals with visual and hearing impairments, aiming to enhance independence and quality of life through thoughtful design and engineering.
