Frequently Asked Questions

Membership & Entry

How do I join the gym as a UofG student?

To join the gym as a University of Glasgow student, you need to be fully matriculated and have your student card and GUID credentials.

You can then log in the UofG Sport system here with your full GUID (including any letters) and select the Join option.

You can also join at Front Desk at the Stevenson Building or Garscube Sport Complex.

[Please note that if you are in UofG Accommodation, you will automatically be granted a free off-peak student membership to UofG Sport. However, it can sometimes take a few days after Accommodation check-in for your details to be transferred to the UofG Sport system – if you would like access in the meantime, just bring a copy of your Accommodation contract with you and show our Front Desk Team.]

Once you've joined, your existing student card will automatically give you access to our entrance gates.

How do I join the gym as a UofG staff member?

If you're a full, salaried employee of the University of Glasgow, you can join UofG Sport via Payroll by submitting a Helpdesk request here.

The monthly membership fee is deducted from your salary at the end of each month. Staff Payroll memberships are paid in arrears (not in advance) so your monthly deduction covers the membership period of the past month, not the incoming month.

You can also add a Plus One to your Payroll membership via the Helpdesk, with the Plus One's membership costing the same as yours i.e. £23 per month for one member, £46 per month for two members.

If you're not salaried (e.g. you complete a timesheet each month) can also join as a Direct Debit member for exactly the same monthly cost as Staff Payroll members (£23/month).

Important note: if you started working at the University on or after 1st August 2022 you automatically have a free six-month UofG Sport membership (not applicable to Honorary/Affiliate Staff).

If you're an Honorary or Affiliate UofG Staff member, you can join us a GUConnect member. This is a type of Community membership and is paid via Direct Debit – to join, please visit Front Desk at the Stevenson Building.

Can I join the UofG Sport gym as a member of the public?

Yes, absolutely. You don't need to have any affiliation with the University of Glasgow to join the UofG Sport gym.

We have a range of Community membership options, which you can find out more about here.

Community memberships are paid monthly by Direct Debit – with no joining fees and no contract! (All we ask for is a minimum of 30 days' notice if you wish to cancel.)

To join as a Community member, please visit Front at the Stevenson Building or Garscube Sports Complex, where our team will be happy to get you set up.

Can I use the gym without a membership?

Yes, non-members can use the UofG Sport gym by purchasing a Day Pass from our Front Desk team.

A Day Pass gives you full access to all UofG Sport facilities – that includes all fitness classes, and sports activities such as badminton, basketball, squash etc.

Any costs for members associated with classes or activities (e.g. £2.50 member cost for a badminton session) are included in the cost of a Day Pass.

However, advance booking is not available to non-members – so if you wish to attend a fitness class or have a game of squash, badminton etc. it's subject to availability on the day. If there's a specific class or activity you'd like to attend, we'd advise giving us a phone in advance of your visit, to check if there's space available.

Are children allowed access to UofG Sport facilities?

UofG Sport members (or non-members with a Day Pass) can sign up to two children (aged 15 or under) into the Stevenson Building free of charge, with the following conditions.

Child access is only permitted at the following times:

  • In the absence or unavailability of family changing rooms, any child aged 8 or under may be taken by a supervising adult into an opposite-sex changing room.

Why am I not receiving Booking Confirmation emails?

It could be that the confirmation emails are being picked up by your junkmail/spam filters. To fix this, please add the email address scubasqladmin@campus.gla.ac.uk to your email account's whitelist or 'safe senders' list.

In recent versions of Outlook, you can do this by clicking Home then Junk then Junk E-Mail Options then Safe Senders then Add.

For other email clients (e.g. Apple Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird etc.) please refer to the help documentation for your specific email program.

The other possibility is an old or incorrect email address on your UofG Sport account.

For UofG Students and Staff please email sport@glasgow.ac.uk to check or update the email address we have on our system.

For Community and GUConnect members, you can check or update your email address by logging into the booking system and selecting Your Bookings then Update Email Address.

How do I cancel my booking using the app?

To cancel your booking using the UofG Sport app, please select Book Your Visit, log in then select Your Bookings then Cancel. Select which booking(s) you'd like to cancel then select Cancel Booking then hit OK to confirm.
