Studying sociology at Glasgow University has given me the opportunity to engage in a diverse range of modules which has been really beneficial in giving me a broad education and also in honing my interests within the field of sociology. The analytical and critical skills I have learnt will really benefit me in any further academic study or career I chose to pursue.
In particular I have really benefited from the teaching which has helped me learn, analyse and write as a sociologist.
In first and second year the basic elements of sociology which are taught help give students a great grounding and understanding of the subject. This is excellent preparation for the more specific modules which are taught in the honours’ years. I would really recommend studying sociology at Glasgow. My time in the department has been a really positive experience where the extensive range of modules on offer and the excellent standard of teaching has given me a sound grasp of what sociology is and what a sociologist does.
James Poulter, Graduate with First Class Honours, 2010
The teaching was of the highest level, lecturers and tutors obviously possessed a huge wealth of knowledge within their particular field, presented this material in an accessible and captivating way, and were more than happy to help students whenever they could, both in and out of class.
I thoroughly enjoyed my studies, to the point where particular classes became the highlight of my week.
I would not hesitate to recommend Sociology. I have no doubt that I wouldn’t have achieved the results that I did without the comprehensive support of the entire department. The whole experience has encouraged me to take my studies even further, something which I never thought I would have said after leaving school.
