‌SCENE, the Scottish Centre for Ecology and the Natural Environment, is the field station of the University of Glasgow. As part of the Institute of Biodiversity, Animal Health & Comparative Medicine, within the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences, SCENE is dedicated to excellence in field research and teaching.

Funding is available to applicants for the MRes Ecology and Environmental Biology to cover accommodation costs at the Scottish Centre for Ecology and the Natural Environment (SCENE) for the academic year 2017-18. The funding (equivalent in value to approximately £4,000) is intended to encourage high quality field-based research, and provide the opportunity for students to fully participate in research activities at the field station.

Rent-free accommodation for up to three students based at SCENE is available as a student bursary for the 2017-18 session. Accommodation consists of modern en-suite single rooms with communal kitchen and sitting room. Students will be given access to excellent office, laboratory and research facilities, including aquaria. Field research in both terrestrial and aquatic habitats is well supported, with immediate access to field sites by foot or by boat.

Applications should be emailed (as a single pdf) to Ms Emily Jackson ( no later than Friday 28 July, 2017. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview at SCENE or interviewed by phone/Skype in early August (date to be confirmed). Informal enquiries in advance are very much welcomed.

"The MRes is a fantastic opportunity to develop research skills, and SCENE is an ideal environment in which to really maximise this experience. The high-quality equipment and supervision on offer here, in addition to the broad variety of possible research topics, make SCENE a great place to work on independent research while interacting with other researchers. Living on the shores of Loch Lomond is a definite bonus!"

Brigid Bell (Student Representative - 2017)

"Living and working at SCENE has been an amazing experience, with my field site just a few minutes walk away, access to laboratories and office space, and state of the art equipment. The community spirit and wide range of expertise at SCENE make it the ideal place for intensive research based learning and gaining skills outside of your field."

Lucy Winder (Student - 2017)
