When will accommodation fees asked to be paid? And what's the deadline date for this?

Accommodation fees are added to your MyCampus account on (or shortly after) the contract start date. You should set up a payment plan or decide to pay the fees as soon as possible. Fees are normally paid in 7 instalments between October and April.

When will I find out my room details?

You will find out your room details on move-in day. We do not disclose this information in advance in case we need to make last minute adjustments to room allocation.

What are the working hours of the accommodation reception? Can I check in any time after the accommodation opens?

The residences will have information available for those arriving outside of the standard opening / reception hours if your travel arrangements means this will happen. This may be a phone number to call on arrival or a security officer issuing keys.

There is no airport pickup. The International Student Support team have useful information on arriving at Glasgow Airport.

How can I pay my tuition fees?

There are several payment options including:

  • The University of Glasgow Payments platform - for international students - in your currency
  • Credit or debit card (online via MyCampus)
  • Cheque or bank draft
  • Bank transfer
  • Direct debit instalments

Registration

When and how do you register?

Registration is available for eligible students on a phased basis. Once access is granted, and around one month prior to your course start date, you will receive an email containing instructions on how to register through MyCampus.

You should register and enrol online as soon as possible and before your programme start date to build your timetable and get everything ready to begin your studies by your teaching start date.

All students, new and returning, must complete both the academic and financial registration. Once you are academically registered, you can enrol on courses and classes.

When do I get an email to register on MyCampus?

Check your inbox for an email with the subject heading: Access to Your Student Account. This will be sent to you before your programme start date. This important email includes:

  • Information on how to access your Student Account
  • Your Glasgow Unique Identifier (GUID)
  • Your temporary password
  • Links to further guidance materials to help you through the process

Use the login details provided in your Access Your Student Account email to login to the MyGlasgow Student Portal

How do I choose my courses?

Once you have registered, you can move on to enrolling on your courses.

How many courses do I choose?

Choosing courses will depend on your programme and whether you are studying on a full-time or part-time basis. You can find out more in the enrolment guide.

How do I get my timetable?

You can find your timetable in the Enrol tab, or directly via your MyGlasgow Student Portal. Your timetable will display the class title, location, and time. It may also display the name of the course lecturer.

Your timetable will be automatically created in MyCampus as you enrol on courses and classes.

If you switch or drop a course or class, your timetable will update automatically. When you have completed Enrolment, we would advise that you download the UofG Life App to view your timetable more easily.

Please note, the app takes 24 hours to update any changes made to your timetable. To login to the UofG Life App once downloaded, use your GUID and password. 

Viewing your timetable in the UofG Life App

  • Select 'Timetable' at the bottom of the screen
  • For on-campus classes, select 'room details' in your timetable to get directions
  • Select 'Find a Building' and 'Near Me' to navigate your way around the campus with our interactive map, including information on accessible routes
  • Click 'Settings' to receive live notifications and / or SMS alerts about timetable changes
  • Access other features including study space information and bookings, and student health and wellbeing services

When will the programme start?

We expect all students to arrive at the start of the academic year, Monday 16 September 2024, to benefit from the welcome activities during welcome week before your classes begin on Monday 23 September 2024.

Is there a pre-reading list available?

Before your programme begins, you will receive a welcome letter, along with your programme handbook and information on any pre-reading so keep an eye on your emails.

For part-time students, how far in advance will it be known which day requires in-class attendance?

Once you have enrolled on your courses and classes, you will have access to your timetable in MyCampus on the Enrol tab, or directly via your MyGlasgow Student Portal. You can download the UofG Life App to view your timetable.

Induction events

Are you going to hold some events before the beginning of September? How do I check the schedule for them?

School-wide inductions will take place during the week of 16 September 2024. Details will be emailed to you and will also be included on the Moodle platform.

The first week is a Welcome Week. What does this mean?

We expect all students to arrive at the start of the academic year, Monday 16 September 2024, to benefit from welcome activities to meet your classmates, teaching staff and familiarise yourself with our campus, services and support available.

Can I undertake part-time work alongside / to complement my studies?

We would recommend students work no more than 20 hours per week. For international students, working no more than 20 hours per week is a requirement due to visa regulations. Learn more about your Student or Tier 4 visa responsibilites here.

 

Will the school have positions available for students in related fields?

Whilst we cannot guarantee internships, the University offers support with finding opportunities. Students can access both the Careers Service and the Student Opportunities Hub.

I am an international student but I have studied in England, do you think I will find the accent difficult?

Our university is truly international, bringing together students and staff from over 140 different countries. You'll have the opportunity to engage with people from a range of background and cultures.

How can I build a relationship with my professor? Do they have office hours?

Your programme convenor is your first point of contact and they will be able to inform you of engagement opportunities. You can find their details on our website and this information alongside other academic contacts will be in your programme handbook which will be emailed to you before the start of your programme.

How to defer your offer

What are the documents you need to submit if you would like to apply for a postponement due to financial reasons?

Deferral requests can be made from 1st March 2024 until 30th September 2024. We do not accept deferral requests for Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters programmes. To be considered for a defferal, you must have accepted a conditional or unconditional offer for 2024-2025 admission, and you must have paid any relevant deposits to secure your place on the course. Please note that the above must be done PRIOR to requesting the defferal. 

You can defer your application to the next intake by following the steps below:

1. log into your Applicant Self Service account
2. click on the ‘Defer Application’ link with the bottom section, ‘Admissions’
3. click on the ‘DEFER’ link for the relevant programme
4. confirm the deferral by clicking the ‘Confirm deferral’ link

Please note that a deferral can only be requested a maximum of 2 times.
