When can I check into my student accommodation?

Your accommodation contract starts on Friday 12 September 2025. You can check into your accommodation on or any time after this date. Please be aware that accommodation fees are charged from the contract start date regardless of when you arrive in the accommodation.

When will accommodation fees asked to be paid? And what's the deadline date for this?

Accommodation fees are added to your MyCampus account on (or shortly after) the contract start date. You should set up a payment plan or decide to pay the fees as soon as possible. Fees are normally paid in 7 instalments between October and April.

When will I find out my room details?

You will find out your room details on move-in day. We do not disclose this information in advance in case we need to make last minute adjustments to room allocation.

What are the working hours of the accommodation reception? Can I check in any time after the accommodation opens?

The residences will have information available for those arriving outside of the standard opening / reception hours if your travel arrangements means this will happen. If you are arriving late, please reach out to your postgraduate residence using the contact details provided.

Is there a service to collect students at the airport? Or do you make your own arrangements?

There is no airport pickup. The International Student Support team have useful information on arriving at Glasgow Airport.

When is the last date I can apply for postgraduate accommodation?

Applications to postgraduate accommodation residences are still open; however, the accommodation guarantee date has now passed.

Your Tuition Fees

How can I pay my tuition fees?

There are several payment options including:

  • The University of Glasgow Payments platform - for international students - in your currency
  • Credit or debit card (online via MyCampus)
  • Direct debit instalments
  • Manual instalment plan

Registration

When and how do you register?

Registration opens to both home and international students from 11 August 2025. Please register as soon as possible and ensure you complete both academic and financial registration before your programme starts. Registration will take place on a phased basis, please keep an eye on your emails for instructions on how to access your student account.

How do I complete registration?

Check your inbox for an email with the subject heading: Access to Your Student Account. This will be sent to you before your programme start date. This important email includes:

  • Information on how to access your Student Account
  • Your Glasgow Unique Identifier (GUID)
  • Your temporary password
  • Links to further guidance materials to help you through the process

Use the login details provided in your Access Your Student Account email to login to the MyGlasgow Student Portal

Under the MyCampus heading, select MyRegistration and begin your registration!

Enrolling on courses and finding your timetable

How do I choose my courses?

Once you have completed Registration, you can move on to Enrolment.

Enrolment includes selecting the courses and classes you want to take, including lectures and seminars to create your timetable for your degree programme.

Once you have registered, please keep an eye on your emails for a notification prompting you to enrol on MyCampus.

How many courses do I choose?

Choosing courses will depend on your programme and whether you are studying on a full-time or part-time basis. You can find out more in the enrolment guide.

When do I get my timetable?

You will have access to your timetable once you have enrolled. You can find your timetable in the Enrol tab, or directly via your MyGlasgow Student Portal. Your timetable will display the class title, location, and time. It may also display the name of the course lecturer.

If you switch or drop a course or class, your timetable will update automatically. When you have completed Enrolment, we would advise that you download the UofG Life App to view your timetable more easily.

Please note, the app takes 24 hours to update any changes made to your timetable. To login to the UofG Life App once downloaded, use your GUID and password. 

Viewing your timetable in the UofG Life App

  • Select 'Timetable' at the bottom of the screen
  • For on-campus classes, select 'room details' in your timetable to get directions
  • Select 'Find a Building' and 'Near Me' to navigate your way around the campus with our interactive map, including information on accessible routes
  • Click 'Settings' to receive live notifications and / or SMS alerts about timetable changes
  • Access other features including study space information and bookings, and student health and wellbeing services

When will the programme start?

We expect all students to arrive at the start of the academic year, Monday 15 September 2025, to benefit from the welcome activities during welcome week before your classes begin on Monday 22 September 2025.

How do I prepare for starting university?

How do I prepare academically for starting university?

To prepare academically for starting University, we recommend you do any assigned readings, as this will set you up well for doing assessments. In addition, the Student Learning Development team offer workshops on a range of skills, including academic writing to help you succeed in your studies.

How do I get access to a reading list?

For some programmes, reading lists will be included in the welcome letter sent to you before your programme start date. For other programmes, reading lists will not be included in the welcome letter but will be available to download from MyCampus once you have registered and enrolled in your classes.

What should I pack in my suitcase?

For part-time students, how far in advance will it be known which day requires in-class attendance?

How do I open a bank account in the UK and what bank accounts do you recommend for students?

When arriving in Glasgow as an international student, it's a good idea to think about opening a bank account. Although we can't recommend a specific bank, there are plenty of banks close to the University in the west end or in the city centre.

Induction events

When does Welcome Week commence?

Welcome Week begins on 15 September 2025 and is the start of the academic year. This week has lots of induction sessions with information about your school, programme, and the support services available to you. We strongly recommend you arrive in Glasgow for Welcome Week, so you can meet your classmates and teaching staff, and make the most of the activities on offer.

Please note that there will be school-level and programme-specific inductions and we strongly recommend attending both. 

Are there any events specific to international students?

The University has several events aimed at international students to welcome you and help you settle into life in the UK and university.

When can I meet my classmates?

There will be an opportunity for you to meet your classmates during the induction events organised for you. This includes the school-level and programme-specific inductioins that will take place during Welcome Week from 15 September 2025. We strongly recommend attending both.

Can I undertake part-time work alongside / to complement my studies?

We would recommend students work no more than 20 hours per week. For international students, working no more than 20 hours per week is a requirement due to visa regulations. Learn more about your Student or Tier 4 visa responsibilites here.

 

Will the school have positions available for students in related fields?

Whilst we cannot guarantee internships, the University offers support with finding opportunities. Students can access both the Careers Service and the Student Opportunities Hub.

Dissertations and Assessments

Can you tell me about the assessment methods?

The School of Social & Political Sciences has no traditional exams at the postgraduate taught level. Instead assessment is carried out through a range of other methods, including summative assessments such as assessed essays.

Many of our programmes will have either a dissertation or final project as part of your assessment. The dissertation is a 60-credit module completed by early September. The dissertation procress usually starts in January during semester two and is submitted early September.

Our university is truly international, bringing together students and staff from over 140 different countries. You'll have the opportunity to engage with people from a range of background and cultures.

How can I build a relationship with my professor? Do they have office hours?

Your programme convenor is your first point of contact and they will be able to inform you of engagement opportunities. You can find their details on our website and this information alongside other academic contacts will be in your programme handbook which will be emailed to you before the start of your programme.

How to defer your offer

What are the documents you need to submit if you would like to apply for a postponement due to financial reasons?

Deferral requests for the 2026 intake will open on 1 March 2025.

To be considered for a defferal, you must have accepteds a conditional or unconditional offer for the 2025 intake and have paid any relevant deposits to secure your place on the course. The deadline for requesting a defferal to the 2026 intake is 30 September 2025. If you do not meet these criteria, your request will be declined.

You can defer your application to the next intake following the steps below:

1. Log into your Applicant Self Service account
2. Click on the ‘Defer Application’ link with the bottom section, ‘Admissions’
3. Click on the ‘DEFER’ link for the relevant programme
4. Confirm the deferral by clicking the ‘Confirm deferral’ link

Please note that a deferral can only be requested a maximum of 2 times.
