Northern Ireland Housing Market Areas
This study develops a new empirical methodology which is then implemented to define the spatial boundaries of the 11 housing market areas that make up the Northern Ireland housing market. It starts form 2001 travel to work areas and then updates the boundaries based on detailed micro analysis of GP re-registrations as a proxy for migration data at the local spatial scale. While many of the rural housing markets to the west of Northern Ireland were largely unchanged in the period 2001-07, the rapid escalation of housie prices and economic growth in the period led to a spatial increase in the extent of the Greater Belfast housing market area.
