How we can help
Soft Tissue Surgery
Our Soft Tissue Surgery service provides expert care for conditions affecting areas of the body outside the nervous and musculoskeletal systems. This includes procedures involving the ear, nose and throat (ENT), thoracic (lung and cardiac), abdominal (liver, gastrointestinal, urogenital), skin reconstruction, and oncological (cancer-related) surgeries.
We are equipped with advanced surgical facilities and work closely with other departments such as Internal Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging, Anaesthesia, and Oncology to deliver integrated, patient-centred care. Our aim is to offer tailored treatment plans that best meet the needs of each individual patient and their owner.
Orthopaedic Surgery
Our Orthopaedic Surgery service offers high-quality care for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. We are equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical tools, including digital radiography, intra-operative C-arm, arthroscopy, CT, and MRI scanners.
We collaborate closely with other clinical services to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to care. Our goal is to provide personalised treatment plans that suit the unique needs of each patient and their owner.

James Phillips BVMS PgC(SAS) MRCVS
Clinician in Surgery
James Graduated from Glasgow University in 2012. He initially worked in mixed animal practice before moving to small animal only practice in Glasgow.
James initially worked in mixed animal practice before moving to small animal only practice where he developed an interest in surgery. He completed a post graduate certificate in surgery in 2018 and went on to work as a peripatetic surgeon for CVS offering soft tissue and orthopaedic referral surgery for their practices throughout Scotland and the North East of England. He joined the Small Animal Hospital in 2023 and has a keen interest in cruciate disease treatment and fracture repair but also specialises in oncology cases and skin reconstruction.
James is a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons recognised Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery.
Verónica Rodiño Tilve, BVSc GPCert PgC(SAS) DipECVS MRCVS
EBVS® and RCVS Specialist in Small Animal Surgery
Verónica is a European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery with over a decade of experience in veterinary practice. In February 2024, she achieved the European Diploma in Small Animal Surgery, earning recognition as an EBVS® and RCVS Specialist in Small Animal Surgery.
After graduating with distinction from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2010, Verónica pursued advanced training through rotating and surgical internships at leading institutions, including the Universities of Santiago de Compostela, Glasgow, and Liverpool. She spent time in general practice, during which she attained her Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2020, before embarking on a surgical residency at Southfields Veterinary Specialists.
Following her residency, Verónica worked as a small animal surgery clinician at Southfields and later as a locum surgeon, gaining extensive experience in both soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures. In January 2025, she joined the University of Glasgow as a clinician in small animal surgery, bringing her wealth of expertise and dedication to patient care back to Glasgow.
Isabel de Marcos DVM MRCVS
University Clinician in SA Surgery
Isabel graduated from the University of León in 2010 and began her career in first opinion small animal practice, where she gained valuable clinical experience. During this time, she undertook a postgraduate certificate in small animal surgery, which led her to pursue further training in the field.
Isabel subsequently completed both rotating and surgical internships at various private referral practices in the UK, further developing her skills and she completed a surgical residency at Pride Veterinary Referrals, where she received extensive training in orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures.
Her primary areas of clinical interest include orthopaedics and reconstructive surgery, with a strong focus on improving patient outcomes through advanced surgical techniques and evidence-based approach to our patients
Vasileia Logothetou DVM, PgC (SAS), MRCVS
University Clinician in Small Animal Surgery
Vasileia graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 2015. She moved to the UK in 2016 where she worked in general practice, until she undertook a rotating internship in a private referral hospital in Winchester. Soon after that, Vasileia returned to general practice while completing a certificate in small animal surgery. After specialised internships at the University of Liverpool and at Southfields Veterinary Specialists in Essex, Vasileia started a surgical residency at the latter institution. She completed her residency in April 2025. She is interested in all aspects of surgery, but especially, reconstructive and maxillofacial surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, and fracture repair.
In her spare time Vasileia likes to go running, watch movies, play video-games, and spend time with friends and family. She has a lovely rescue cat called Ronda who loves cuddles and, weirdly, belly rubs
Genziana Nurra DVM, MRCVS, CertAVP, ECVS Resident
Training Clinician in Small Animal Surgery
Genziana graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Sassari, Italy, in 2014. Shortly after, she relocated to the UK, where she began her career in general practice. She went on to complete a rotating internship at the University of Glasgow and remained there to work in the Out-of-Hours service, gaining valuable experience in emergency and critical care.
Her passion for surgery led her to pursue further internships in both university and private referral , and she later took on a Teaching Assistant role in Anatomy at Bristol Veterinary School. During this time, she also completed a certificate in small animal surgery through the University of Liverpool. Genziana returned to the Small Animal Hospital to complete a surgical residency.
She is enthusiastic about all aspects of surgery, with particular interests in thoracic and hepatobiliary procedures, as well as trauma surgery.
Outside of work, Genziana enjoys cooking, spending time with friends and family, and relaxing with her two cats, Nie and Frankie, both of whom are full of personality.
Iona Macdonald RVN CertVNECC
Senior Orthopaedic Nurse
Iona qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse from Myerscough College in 2010, further studying for a certificate in Emergency and Critical Care in 2013. She gained experience working in multi-disciplinary referral hospitals before joining our nursing team in 2019.
She is passionate about providing a high standard of care to her patients and can often be found in the wards ensuring her patients have everything they need. As our Senior Surgery Nurse she is responsible for both the orthopaedic and soft tissue cases.
Kendra Yates RVN ISFM CertFN
Senior Soft Tissue Nurse
Kendra graduated as a Registered Veterinary Nurse from Edinburgh Napier University in 2017. After graduating she worked in a first opinion practice in Ayrshire but left to join the team at the Small Animal Hospital in 2022. Kendra started as a rotating nurse and worked in all areas of the hospital but quickly joined the Soft Tissue and Orthopaedic team, which she thoroughly enjoys.
Kendra has a nursing certificate from International Cat Care in feline nursing and is currently studying towards getting her certificate in surgical nursing. At home she has a senior cat, Tammy, who was adopted from Cats Protection.
