Turnitin (Originality Checking Software)

Due to possible plagiarism issues, it is compulsory for all students in Phase 4 to submit their Portfolio Cases to Turnitin. Turnitin is an originality checking and plagiarism prevention service that will check a student's Portfolio Cases for citation mistakes or inappropriate copying. When a student submits their Portfolio Case, Turnitin compares it to text in its database of student work, websites, books, articles, etc.

Plagiarism is taken very seriously by the University of Glasgow. For each Block there will be approximately 300 reports submitted. The role of the Assessment Team in the Undergraduate Medical School is to make sure that all students have submitted their Portfolio Cases to Turnitin for each block, and the Educational Supervisor’s role is to review the Turnitin report, confirm that you have done this via the End of Block Assessment Form and to advise us if you are concerned about a student’s similarity score by emailing: med-sch-assessment@glasgow.ac.uk

It is important to note that there is no exact good or bad similarity score.  The score generated must be understood in the context of the assignment, therefore the acceptability of the score should be determined at the discretion of the Educational Supervisor reviewing the case.
