Clinical Attachments and Block Dates

Clinical Attachments are undertaken during Phase 4 of the curriculum (from the middle of year three onwards).  The 2020-2021 block dates can be viewed here.

Students are attached to a specific hospital, where they are located a base ward and assigned to an individual Educational Supervisor. 

Students undertake a series of rotating clinical attachments as follows (some changes have been made to the block lengths for 2020-2021 due to Covid-19).

Emergency Medicine 5 weeks
ENT/Ophthalmology 5 weeks
General Practice 5 weeks
Medicine 1 x 5 weeks and 1 x 10 weeks
Musculoskeletal  5 weeks
Neurology/Cardiology 5 weeks
Obstetrics & Gynaecology 5 weeks
Psychiatry 5 weeks
Surgery 2 x 5 weeks

Year 3: 1 x 5 week Medical Block and 1 x 5 week Surgical Block 

Year 4: 1 x 10 week Medical Block, 1 x 5 week Surgical Block and 4 x 5 week Speciality Blocks 

Year 5: 4 x 5 week Speciality Blocks
