Our Commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We are committed to promoting the principles of, equality, diversity, inclusion and an environment where all individuals are valued, respected, and afforded the opportunity to flourish in their pursuit of excellence. We encourage and welcome our staff and students to share ideas with us surrounding issues of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Our community has been engaged with the Athena Swan Gender Equality Charter since 2016 and this has been pivotal to our efforts to create a supportive and inclusive culture within our community.

Our intersectional equity, diversity and inclusion activities are guided by our Diversity and inclusion Committee that also functions as our Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team (SAT).

Diversity and Inclusion Committee

A new D&I committee was established in SBOHVM in August 2022. We meet bimonthly and provide strategic direction to our Athena Swan actions and wider EDI activities.

D&IC includes representation of all grades and job families across the School and has both undergraduate and postgraduate student representation.  Our team members have varying roles and experience, including caring responsibilities, flexible working, and part-time working and is diverse in seniority, sex and gender identity, age, and ethnicity.

Get involved

All our staff and students are welcome to become involved in our work.  If you are interested in contributing please contact EDI director Lubna Nasir or complete our feedback form.
