Whichever undergraduate programme you choose, you will gain expertise in logical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving — skills that will equip you for success in any career you choose.

With an undergraduate degree in mathematics or statistics, you can pursue a diverse range of careers, from business analyst and data scientist to financial analyst and game designer. Your expertise can lead you to roles in various fields, including finance, technology, healthcare, and education.

Study Pathway: 4-year Degree

Our 4-year flexible programmes offer routes towards either a BSc or MA in mathematics and/or statistics. These degrees offer students an excellent opportunity to keep their studies broad in the first two years, before concentrating on mathematics and/or statistics in their final two years.

Mathematics

You will divide your time between mathematics and other subjects during the first two years of your undergraduate degree. In the first year, you’ll spend a third of your time on mathematics, with the other two thirds focused on two additional subjects (one of which can be statistics). By the second year, you’ll dedicate half your time to mathematics, with the remaining half on one of your other chosen subjects. For your final two years you will be able to study just mathematics.

Statistics

You will divide your time between statistics, mathematics, and another subject during your first two years of your undergraduate degree. In the first year, you’ll spend a third of your time on statistics, a third on mathematics, and a third on an additional subject. For the second year, you will spend half your time on statistics and half on either mathematics or your additional subject, before being able to study just statistics for your final two years.

Mathematics & Statistics

You’ll split your focus evenly between both subjects. In the first year, you will spend a third of your time on an additional subject before focusing just on mathematics and statistics after that.

Study Pathway: 3-year Degree (Faster Route)

Our Faster Route courses are designed for highly qualified individuals looking to take a focussed 3-year degree. Options are available for standard BSc Mathematics, Statistics, and Mathematics & Statistics degrees or, with an additional fourth year of studies, to complete an integrated master’s MSci degree. Transferring between these courses is possible after your first year.

Mathematics

You will divide your time between mathematics and statistics in the first year of your degree. After that, you can focus on mathematics, studying for a further two years for a BSc. With an additional fourth year you can qualify for an integrated master’s degree (MSci).

Statistics

You will divide your time between statistics and mathematics in the first year of your degree. After that, you can focus on statistics, studying for either a further two years for a BSc. With an additional fourth year you can qualify for an integrated master’s degree (MSci).

Mathematics & Statistics

For the entire course you will split your time between mathematics and statistics, studying for a total of three years (BSc) or four years (MSci) for your degree.

Study Pathway: 5-year Degree

Our 5-year flexible programmes offer a route towards an undergraduate MSci or MA integrated master’s degree in either mathematics and/or statistics. These degrees follow the structure of the 4-year degrees, with a final fifth year of advanced study in your chosen subject(s). For statistics this can include doing a year on a work placement with our industry partners.
