The University’s REF2021 results have confirmed the very high quality of research that is undertaken across the institution – with 93.1% of our research judged to be world leading or internationally excellent. This is a notable improvement on the last research assessment in 2014. As a result, the Times Higher Education now rank the University as =13^th in the UK, compared to =24^th for REF2014.

A huge congratulations to the whole university community on these results – to all our researchers and to all those that support and enable our research. Thanks also to those colleagues from across the University who, for the last year, have served as REF2021 panel members, assessing the quality of research from the UK.

Over the past week we have been celebrating our research and collaborations via our main UofG Twitter account and it has been fantastic to see the breadth of activity and partnerships which take place across the University. This has also highlighted our collegiate approach and commitment to creating a positive research culture which supports staff and research students throughout their career.

Our strategies and investment will continue to reflect this ambition and commitment.

“The past two years have been particularly challenging for everyone, and this moment provides a timely opportunity for us all to reflect on our own institutions’ achievements – and indeed the significant progress that we have achieved together. I would like to extend my thanks and congratulations to colleagues at the University of Glasgow for all their efforts and many congratulations to our sister institutions across the UK on their results.”
