SPHERES OF SINGING

This theme explores songs, singing, and songwriting, its importance within Scottish culture, and its role in the improvement of physical and mental health.

Spheres of Singing is a multi-disciplinary emerging Arts Lab theme, bringing together established scholars and practitioners, along with early career and postgraduate research students, working on all aspects of song and singing. Current research activity at UofG is diverse: from a wide range of historical song projects in the College of Arts, to ongoing research about singing and respiratory health or the benefits of songs and singing in difficult social and political environments in the Colleges of Medicine, Veterinary & Life Sciences and Social Sciences. The core team are building collaborations and conversations with colleagues in all four colleges, taking forward a range of activities relating to songs, songwriting, and singing, which explore its importance within Scottish culture and its growing role in the improvement of both physical and mental health in Scotland.
