The conference will take place online between the 28th and the 30th March 2022 from 10am to 5pm (UK time). The event is free and open to members and affiliated members of both HEIs.

This online conference is organised jointly between the SMLC in the College of Arts at the University of Glasgow and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Kyushu to celebrate the Memorandum of Understanding signed in December 2020 and the new research collaborations which have started to emerge after the scoping event focused on Modernism and Post-Modernity in Scotland and Japan, organised in April 2021.

This time the programme includes papers on the topic of Islands in the Global Age from specialists and art practitioners across multiple disciplines in the College of Arts and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Kyushu University (including History of Art, Music, Theatre Studies, Museum Studies, Modern Languages, TRS, History, Design and Architecture), and showcases contributions from PhD students and Early Career Researchers at both institutions. One of the highlights of the programme is the streaming of the film Erraid Sound: Floating Worlds by Graham Eatough (Glasgow) and Andre Deker with music by Daryl Jamieson (Kyushu). The conference is also intended as a celebration of recent cross-College collaboration in the field of Arts and Neuro-Science and Psychology, and Arts and Social Sciences with the participation of colleagues from INP at the University of Glasgow and from the Faculty of Social and Cultural Studies at the University of Kyushu. Please see enclosed programme for details.
