Results Guidance

Results Days

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) publishes its examination results online the same day your Scottish Qualifications Certificate arrives by post - Tuesday 8 August 2023.

The A-level results day for 2023 is Thursday 17 August 2023.

Receiving your results

UCAS receives your results directly and will update UCAS Hub accordingly - typically around 8am. As the system will be busy with students keen to find out if they've received offers, you'll need to be patient.

In Scotland, if you registered for MySQA you'll be emailed and/or texted your results from 8am on the day they're published. Alternatively, you'll still receive your certificate through the post.

If you have any specific queries or issues regarding your 2023 offer

Please send your query via our Enquiry Form and we will review it as soon as possible.

If you are Unconditional Firm but wish to be released from your Glasgow offer, remember you can do this yourself via the Self-Release option in your UCAS account.

If you are Conditional Firm and wish to be released from your Glasgow offer, please complete our Enquiry Form, select subject Clearing, and advise that you wish a Clearing release. These will be fast-tracked with releases visible on UCAS Track but this action will take at least 24 hours.

UCAS Hub

What will UCAS Hub show?

If decisions have been made by your university choices, and UCAS have been notified, you can expect to see the following changes to offers on UCAS Hub:

UF - Unconditional Firm

Congratulations! You have a confirmed place at the University of Glasgow and for many of our students you will be joining Team UofG week commencing Monday 11 September 2023 for the start of your academic year and orientation (including Freshers’ Week).  Start of Semester 1 teaching will be the following Monday, 18 September..

You will receive your UF letter from us on Tuesday 8th August. Please check the letter for anything outstanding on your Applicant portal that you are yet to upload. This will likely include evidence of your domicile and proof of address. Once you have uploaded these, you can then look forward to receiving your AAN (Access Account Notification) email providing you with the details for accessing your student account to allow you to register as a student and enrol for your classes.

More information for new students including your programme start date is on our information for new student webpages.

R- Reject

Unfortunately, your application has been unsuccessful. We have thoroughly reviewed your application and in doing so, we have considered your previous and current certified study and have confirmed that you are not eligible for the programme you applied for this coming session. However, you are now likely to have your insurance choice place confirmed as your firm choice. If you have also been unsuccessful with your insurance choice this means that you will be eligible to enter Clearing and can now search for a clearing opportunity that is right for you.

Please note, if you believe you have been rejected in error and have met the conditions of your offer as stated please do not worry. If you have been rejected in error we will re-instate your offer and your place will be secure. Please complete our enquiry form.

UI – Unconditional Insurance

If your status is UI at UofG then it is likely that you have been firmly accepted at your first choice University and you will be UF with them. If you are still CF they may still be processing your application. If your first choice University rejects your application your UI at Glasgow will update to UF and you will be joining Team UofG. Please refer to the guidance for UF applicants above.

UCC - Unconditional Changed Course

You don’t have the necessary grades for your offer, but the University has proposed a similar course requiring lower grades. This will mostly be the case for applicants who applied for MEng and we have confirmed your place for the BEng. When you see this status you must accept the Unconditional Changed Course offer on UCAS Hub to further secure your place.

CF- Conditional Firm

If your place is not yet confirmed you will see your status as CF at UofG. It is likely that we have been unable to process your offer. There may be a few reasons for this;

We do not have all your results to be able to make our decision. Please log into your University of Glasgow Applicant Self-Service account and review your "To Do" list for any outstanding actions.

You will have received details on how to do this in your original offer email, alternatively check out this guide. The quicker we receive all your results the quicker we will be able to process your conditional firm offer.

Or

You have not met the conditions of your offer as stated and your application is still under review. We are working hard to make sure you see your application status updates as soon as possible. Please refer to “What to Do Next”.

CI – Conditional Insurance

If your status is CI at UofG we are waiting to see if it updates to CF. It will update to CF if you have been unsuccessful with your firm choice University. As soon as we see your status updating to CF we will process your results. The outcome will either be that we have been able to update your status to UF or due to not meeting the conditions of your offer your application has been unsuccessful. At this point you will be eligible for Clearing and can now search for a clearing opportunity that is right for you.

Decline, Defer or Change Programme

Declining your place

You can only “decline your place” once your application status is UF. If you do not wish to take up your firm place you can use the “Decline your place” button in your UCAS Hub. If you decline your place you are releasing yourself into Clearing. This is available until 6 September 2023.

Please note, that if you “Decline your place” you will also lose your insurance place too. If you still wish to go to your insurance choice University you will need to contact them to find out if they will accept you.

Declining my place with Conditional Firm (CF) status

You cannot “decline your place” if your application is still at CF status. You will need to wait for us to update your offer to either unconditional or reject. If you are working to a timeline and want to apply for a vacancy in Clearing, please get in touch using our Enquiry form. We expect to be able to process all CF applicants wishing to decline their place within 48 hours. Once A Level results are released on Thursday 17 August we will be working to a 24 hour turnaround time to process your CF in order for your to decline your place and choose a clearing vacancy.

Declined your place by mistake

If you have recently declined your place by mistake using the "Decline your place" button in your UCAS Hub, you will need to contact us to have your place re-instated. Please use our enquiry form to do this.

Declined your initial offer from the University of Glasgow

If you declined your original offer from UofG before Thursday 8 June 2023 then unfortunately we will not be able to re-instate your offer.  If your heart is set on coming to Glasgow please apply for 2024 entry.

Changed your mind and don’t want to go to University this year

If you have accepted your offer you will need to contact the Universities you are holding your places with, to let them know you wish to withdraw your application.  We will withdraw your application for you.  Please complete our enquiry form and let us know you want to do this.

If you have not accepted your offers you can withdraw your whole application online on your UCAS Hub.

Changed Course Requests

At this late stage in the Admissions cycle we will be unable to support a changed course request. Please note that if you wish to change subjects within the degree programme that you have applied for this will generally be possible due to the flexibility of our College entry system. This means that if you have applied for MA Arts English Literature and wish to change to MA Arts Philosophy this will be possible to do this once you register and enrol on MA Arts since many of our degree programmes are flexible in the subject offering and allow for students to choose three first year subjects. It will not be possible to change from College to College at this point. Please complete the enquiry form.

Defer your place

If you wish to defer your place you must be UF to be eligible to do this. Please complete our enquiry form to let us know you wish to defer.  Generally, we can only allow an applicant to defer once. Where we are unable to approve deferrals we will let you know in writing.

Plan to Appeal Your Grades

You can register your appeal directly with the SQA from 8 August.
