UF - Unconditional Firm

Congratulations! You have a confirmed place at the University of Glasgow and for many of our students you will be joining Team UofG week commencing Monday 14th September for the new academic year which will start off with Orientation or better known as Freshers’ Week! Teaching and attending your lectures will start the following week on Monday 21st September.

Other Decisions that you may see on your UCAS Hub 

R- Reject

Unfortunately, your application has been unsuccessful. We have thoroughly reviewed your application and in doing so, we have considered your previous and current certified study and have confirmed that you are not eligible for the programme you applied for this coming session. However, you may now have your insurance choice place confirmed as your firm choice. If you have also been unsuccessful with your insurance choice this means that you will be eligible to enter Clearing and can now search for a clearing opportunity that is right for you.  

Please note, if you believe you have been rejected in error and have met the conditions of your offer as stated please do not worry. If you have been rejected in error we will re-instate your offer and your place will be secure. Please complete our enquiry form.

UI – Unconditional Insurance

If your status is UI at UofG then it is likely that you have been not yet firmly accepted at your first choice University and you will still be CF with them. If you are still CF at your firm choice your application is still being processed. If your first choice University rejects your application your UI at Glasgow will update to UF and you will be joining Team UofG. Any enquiries relating to your firm choice university should be made to them directly.  

UCC - Unconditional Changed Course

You don’t have the necessary grades for your offer, but the University has proposed a similar course requiring lower grades. This will mostly be the case for applicants who applied for a MEng degree programme and we have confirmed your place for the BEng degree programme. When you see this status you must accept the Unconditional Changed Course offer on UCAS Hub to further secure your place. 

CF- Conditional Firm

If your place is not yet confirmed you will see your status as CF at UofG. It is likely that we have been unable to process your offer. There may be a few reasons for this. We may not have all your results to be able to make our decision, or you may be on hold for further review. Please log into your UCAS Hub to check your Confirmation Pending Reason for more details.  

Any required documentation/results can be uploaded via Applicant Self--Service. This can be accessed by using the username and password details outlined in your application acknowledgement email. 

CI – Conditional Insurance

If your status is CI at UofG we are waiting to see if it updates to CF. It will update to CF if you have been unsuccessful with your firm choice University. As soon as we see your status updating to CF we will process your results. The outcome will either be that we have been able to update your status to UF or due to not meeting the conditions of your offer your application has been unsuccessful. At this point you will be eligible to enter Clearing and can now search for a clearing opportunity that is right for you.

How do I release myself into Clearing or decline my place?

If your status with us is UF (Unconditional Firm)

You can only decline your place once your application status is UF. If you do not wish to take up your firm place you can use the Decline my Place button in your UCAS Hub. If you decline your place, you are releasing yourself into Clearing. Please note, that if you decline your place, you will also lose your insurance place too. If you still wish to go to your insurance choice University you will need to contact them to find out if they will accept you.

If your status is CF (Conditional Firm)

You cannot decline your place yourself if your application is still at CF status. Before 08:00 on 13th August 2026 you will need to either wait for your CF offer to be updated to UF or get in touch with our enquiry team to request that we send permission to UCAS to be released from your choice with us. This means that any applicant receiving Qualification Scotland results on 4 August will need to engage with this process.

From 08:00 on 13th August you will be able to contact UCAS directly to request to be released from your CF choice. UCAS staff will guide you through the process and advise the risks of releasing yourself from your CF choice.

Can I defer my place?

To defer a place at Glasgow you must hold an Unconditional Firm offer from us. Deferrals are not guaranteed for all programmes, and many of our professional programmes in Medicine, Dentistry, Vet Medicine, Nursing, and Education typically do not allow deferrals.

Generally, we can only allow an applicant to defer once. Where we are unable to approve a deferral, we will let you know in writing.

What should I do if I am appealing my exam results?

If your exam results did not meet the conditions of your offer and you intend to appeal your grades with your exam board, we may be able to reconsider your application where the appeal is successful, meets offer conditions, and has been approved within a reasonable timeframe that will allow you to register and enrol. 

You should discuss your intention to appeal with your school or college and request that they submit your appeal to Qualifications Scotland. Since you hold an offer of study, your school should be able to log a priority appeal. 

You must contact us by the deadline set out by your award body to let us know that you have launched an appeal.

Qualifications Scotland (formerly SQA) appeals must be submitted by 20 August 2026 (for priority appeals) or 28 August 2026 (for standard appeals) if you appeal through your school or college. For learner direct appeals the deadlines are 11 August 2026 (priority) or 25 August 2026 (standard).

For A-Levels appeals should be submitted within the deadlines set out by your specific award body. These dates may vary between award bodies so we would advise you consult with your specific award body to ensure your appeal is submitted in time. 

We will be unable to consider appeals completed after 7 September for applicants that do not require a student visa, and 31 August for those that do require a student visa. This is to ensure that you can enrol in a timely manner. Any appeals that are successful after these dates may be considered on a case-by-case basis for deferral to 2027 entry.
