The Scottish Learning Disabilities Observatory was set up as a specialist public health observatory in 2015 to generate usable health intelligence on the health and wellbeing of people with learning disabilities in Scotland.

In 2023 the Observatory merged with the University Centre for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) research group at the University of Glasgow to become one of the UK's largest research and teaching centres dedicated to improving the lives and health of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
