The Energy Conversion and Storage research section took part in the University of Glasgow’s Sustainable Solutions Showcase in Hunter Halls on 9th November 2021. At this in-person exhibition for all ages, two section members Dr. Mark Symes and Dr Alexey Ganin demonstrated the production of green hydrogen by electrolysis of water and the production of new batteries for the storage of renewably-generated electricity. Two academic staff in front of a poster board

The section’s stand also highlighted the recent success of the British Council-sponsored online workshop “Delivering a Sustainable Energy Transition for Pakistan” which was co-organised by section member Dr Mark Symes.

Michael Johnson and Dr. Anastasiia Kllimash showcased the research in ultra-efficient low-energy lighting conducted in the group of the section head Prof. Pete Skabara. They demonstrated future materials and devices based on organic semiconductors capable of replacing traditional inorganic compounds in devices such as LED lighting and solar panels.

Our visitors ranged from pre-schoolers from the University’s daycare facility to retired scientists wanting to learn more about the latest developments – and everyone in between. It was great fun engaging with the public and telling them about the world-changing research supporting the drive to net zero going on in the section!
