Delivering Athena SWAN

The Institute of Health and Wellbeing was awarded the Athena SWAN bronze award in April 2014, the Silver award in October 2015, and the Gold award in March 2018. This marks our commitment to gender equality and advancing women's careers in our scientific areas.

Institute staff are working to identify key career transition points, and to enhance career development for all. The Athena SWAN self-assessment team is leading this work, and has nine sub-groups which focus in detail on areas where we wish to make continual improvements. These are:

  1. Professional and support (P&S) staff group
  2. Gender-sensitive early career researchers' aspirations and development group
  3. Staff consultation group
  4. Maternity, paternity, parental, and carer issues group
  5. Gender-sensitive mentoring arrangements group
  6. Experiences of undergraduate and post-graduate taught students group
  7. Experiences of postgraduate research and doctor of clinical psychology students group
  8. Staff promotions, and reward and recognition group
  9. LGBTQ+ staff issues, aspirations and development
  10. 50+ workers group
