Dr Sadie Durkacz Ryan

Dr Sadie Durkacz Ryan is Lecturer in Languages and Intercultural Studies. Her research focuses on the role of language in identity construction. Her specialisms include migration, multilingualism, accent and dialect variation, the language of young people, and the connections between language and social justice, particularly in education. She is interested in using creative participatory methods to disrupt and challenge power imbalances in research relationships. She makes the award-winning linguistics podcast Accentricity (www.accentricity-podcast.com), which is aimed at a public, non-specialist audience, and aims to narrow the gap between academic knowledge about language and people’s everyday linguistic experiences.
