Vipin is originally from Mauritius. He moved to the UK in 1999 for his higher education and holds a B.Eng.(Hons.) in ‘Medical Electronics & Instrumentation’ from the University of Liverpool, an MSc. in ‘Engineering & Physical Science in Medicine’ from Imperial College London, an MPhil. in ‘Neuroprosthetics’ from the University of Bath and a PhD. in ‘Biomedical Engineering’ from the University of Warwick. His doctoral research investigated the destruction of kidney stones using High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU). After his PhD, he worked for Public Health England as a Validation Engineer.

Since October 2013, Vipin has been with the Institute for Medical Science and Technology (IMSaT) as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant working in on the Sonopill programme, Theme 1 (Clinical Diagnosis and Therapy). This technical position translates the clinical needs and desired outcomes from Theme 1 to the ultrasound systems integration at the design stage in Theme 2 (Ultrasound Systems).

Vipin’s current research interests include Diagnostic Imaging, Microultrasound, Capsule Endoscopy, Medical Devices Innovation & Development, and Commercialisation routes. Vipin is a member and ambassador of: the ‘Institution of Engineering and Technology’ (IET); the ‘Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine’ (IPEM); the ‘Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE); and ‘Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network’ (STEMnet).
