CAE Open Day and TIC6G Strategic Equipment Opening Ceremony

The Centre for Advanced Electronics at the University of Glasgow is delighted to announce the opening ceremony and networking forum for the £2.6M state-of-the-art EPSRC Strategic Equipment Facility TiC6G "Millimetre-wave and Terahertz On-chip Circuit Test Cluster for 6G Communications and Beyond (TIC6G)".

Co-located with the IET Colloquium on mm-wave and THz Engineering, we invite you to join for two days of invited and contributed talks from prominent researchers in microwave & THz technologies.

The event will also be attended by Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) representatives and local Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs).

The evening includes tours of our world-first on-wafer MHz-THz facility, the opening ceremony including posters, research demos, and a gala dinner sponsored by Keysight.

Date & Time:

1 November 2023, arrival and networking from 4.00 pm (in the Glasgow University Union building), with the dinner concluding around 10.30 pm.

  • 5.00 pm: Welcome address by Professor Edward Wasige (TIC6G PI) and Professor Muhammad Imran (Vice Dean and Director of the Communication, Sensing, & Imaging Hub), and Dr. Glenn Goodall EPSRC Head of ICT theme.

Professor Nick Ridler, Head of Science for NPL's Electromagnetic & Electrochemical Technologies Department,  National Physical Laboratory (NPL)

Presentation title: TBC

Bio: Nick Ridler is the Head of Science for NPL’s Electromagnetic & Electrochemical Technologies Department. He is an internationally-renowned expert in precision high-frequency electromagnetic measurements (from RF to terahertz frequencies), authoring or co-authoring over 250 publications in this field, and has over 35 years' experience working in industrial, government and academic research establishments. He is a Fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology), and IOP (Institute of Physics). He is an Honorary Professor at the Universities of Glasgow (College of Science and Engineering) and Liverpool (Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics), and a Visiting Professor at the Universities of Kent (School of Engineering), Leeds (School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering) and Strathclyde (Department of Physics). He is also a Non-Executive Director of LA Techniques Ltd (a UK SME based in Surbiton, Surrey). Nick has twice been the recipient of the IET Measurement Prize (in 1995 and 2005) and holds ten Best Paper awards from international scientific conferences.

Venue and Transport

VenueGlasgow University Union, please arrive at the Union's entrance and follow the signs to the dining hall. The Lab tours will take place later in the James Watt School of Engineering Rankine Building (starting from the event's hall). 

Transport: The university is accessible using the Glasgow Subway; more information about travelling to Glasgow here.

Accommodation: A variety of hotels are within close proximity to the university or well-connected using the subway.
