EliXR
About us
ELiXR was born out of a shared curiosity (and more than a few "we should collaborate soon!") about how virtual reality (VR) could transform teaching in higher education. We’re a multidisciplinary group of educators, researchers, and tech enthusiasts who believe that the future of learning should be as immersive and engaging as the best lecture you’ve ever set foot into.
Virtual reality is a computer-generated simulation that allows users to experience and interact with 3D environments, typically via a headset. It creates a sense of presence that traditional screens just can’t match—think less PowerPoint, more stepping inside the cell you’re studying or walking through ancient Rome rather than reading about it.
In higher education, VR offers exciting possibilities: enhanced student engagement, experiential learning, safe spaces for trial and error, and new ways to visualize complex ideas. Whether it's simulating lab experiments, practicing soft skills, or exploring historical sites, VR can bridge the gap between theory and practice.
At ELiXR, we explore, design, and evaluate VR experiences with a focus on pedagogy first and pixels second. Our goal is to use VR not because it’s shiny and new, but because it works well - when used wisely. We are interested in developing new use cases in the future and evaluating these with students.
