Who are we looking for?
We are looking to recruit colleagues from the University of Glasgow for our reviewer-pool to assess GKEF applications and provide assessment to the GKEF review panel, which makes the ultimate decisions on funding and consists of Deans from the four Colleges, is chaired by the Vice Principal for Research & Knowledge Exchange and supported by the Research Impact and Engagement Team.
The reviewer-pool is designed to cover broad areas of expertise; it is made up of academics at all career stages with a range of disciplinary knowledge and experience. We welcome applicants from all four Colleges across the University. We are particularly keen to expand the reviewer pools with colleagues whose expertise is in social sciences, creative arts, health and wellbeing and, computing and game development.
Applicants should have an interest in knowledge exchange and ideally some experience.
What is the role?
Selected applicants will be given orientation/calibration training in how to independently evaluate and score GKEF applications based on the fund criteria provided. The applicant will also be expected to undertake EDI and unconscious bias training, if not already undertaken within last 2 years.
Selected applicants will be asked to join the panel for a 2-year duration starting from November 2025.
There are usually 2 rounds of funding per year. Not all reviewers will be required to contribute for each round of funding, reviewers for each round of funding will be identified based on relevant experience and expertise in relation to submitted applications.
We aim to give each reviewer a maximum of 6 applications to review for each round. Reviewers could expect each assigned application to require around 1 hour to review. Therefore, the total commitment over a year could be around 12 hours.
Reviewers will receive feedback from the panel discussion/decision and a subset of reviewers will be invited to attend each panel meeting.
How will you benefit from the role?
This role will provide insight on how knowledge exchange applications are assessed based on criteria, catalysing examination of your own research engagement from a different viewpoint. It will help you hone your skills to provide constructive feedback. You will also have opportunity to attend and observe panel meetings and learn from those observations.
GKEF reviewers tell us that the experience has developed their understanding of knowledge exchange and impact and improved their ability to develop funding applications themselves.
Interested in joining?
If you want to be considered as a reviewer then please complete the application form by the end of the day on Wednesday 15 October 2025, briefly telling us about your area of research expertise, your experience of knowledge exchange, what you believe you can bring to the review process, and why you would like to join the reviewer panel.
Informal enquiries are welcome and should be directed to RIandE@glasgow.ac.uk
Recruitment of GKEF reviewer-pool members is led by the GKEF managers in the Research Impact and Engagement team. Applications will be reviewed and selections made by Research Impact Professionals within University of Glasgow and confirmed by the GKEF Management Group.
You can expect to hear whether you have been appointed to the reviewer-pool by the end of October. Successful applicants will be required to attend an induction in November-early December 2025.
