The Points-Based System (PBS) is the UK's main immigration route for nationals of countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland who wish to come to the UK to study or work. There are five tiers under the Points-based system and Tier 4 is the category for students.
The University of Glasgow acts as a registered sponsor for students under Tier 4 (General). Our Sponsor Licence Number is TRAW6PAA8.
The Immigration Compliance Team within the Registry is responsible for ensuring that a range of areas relating to the University’s licence and Tier 4 sponsor status are met.
Registry’s new BRP Collection Service
Students collecting their Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)* from the University of Glasgow at the start of the 2019/20 academic year are now able to book an appointment to do this using our self-service appointment booking system. Appointments are available throughout the morning and afternoon during August, September and early October, and during these months we will be distributing BRPs for between 2500-3000 students. There are over 6000 appointments available during this period, with just nearly 4000 of those available during the peak period of Visa Registration between 9th – 20th September.
There are numerous benefits to the new BRP Collection Service:
- Students can select their preferred date and time based on their intended date of travel to the UK and ensure that they will be able to comply with UKVI’s deadline for collection
- Queues are reduced because appointments are distributed throughout the Visa Registration period
- Although approximately 40% of students do not require an appointment (e.g. those who do not require a BRP or who have already collected it from the Post Office), Registry have an indication of the approximate number of students to expect and can therefore ensure that adequate staffing is in place
- Students can collect their BRP, complete Visa Registration and collect their Campus Card at their appointment, meaning that these three once separate interactions have now been streamlined into one transaction
*BRPs are issued to students who are coming to the UK on a Tier 4 visa and studying for longer than 6 months. After a student’s Tier 4 visa application is approved, they are given a 30-day visa which allows them to enter the UK and collect their BRP (which will contain their full visa length and conditions). The BRP must be collected prior to the student commencing their studies, and before the expiry of the 30-day visa, or within 10 days of arrival in the UK (whichever is later).
If students or staff have any feedback or queries about the BRP Collection Service, these can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
