Senior Lecturer in Periodontology, Dr Marta Czesnikiewicz-Guzik, was invited to present her study proving the causal association between periodontitis and hypertension at a ‘late breaking science’ session at the recent European Society of Cardiology Congress in Paris.

Following an excellent outcome to the inspection of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery Programme at Glasgow by the General Dental Council in April 2019, the BDS Course has been presented with an Excellence in Education Award by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.

On Wednesday the 16th of October a group of undergraduate dental students attended Glasgow Science Centre for World Restart a Heart Day. The aim was to raise awareness on out of hospital cardiac arrest and train children in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Dr Marcello Riggio (Senior Lecturer in Molecular Microbiology) has been appointed as President of the British Society for Oral and Dental Research (BSODR) for a period of two years. Dr Riggio was formally welcomed to the role by the outgoing President of BSODR, Professor Peter Robinson, in Leeds at the BSODR Annual Conference dinner on 4th September 2019.
