Professor Donal Wall delivers inaugural lecture

Professor Donal Wall, Head of Bacteriology in the School of Infection & Immunity, delivered his inaugural lecture to friends and colleagues on Friday, 27 February 2026 in the Yudowitz Lecture Theatre of the Wolfson Medical School Building.

Sii Head of Bacteriology Professor Donal Wall's inaugural lecture was held on Friday, 27 February 2026 in the Wolfson Medical Building.
In front of a large audience in the Yudowitz Seminar Room, Professor Wall discussed his distinguished career and outlined his research focus.
He reflected on his academic journey, from completing his PhD at University College Dublin to undertaking postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the University of Edinburgh, before establishing his own research group here at the University of Glasgow.
The engaging lecture also spanned a range of topics, from soil microbiology and veterinary microbiology to human pathogens and the microbiome.
Professor Wall said: “It was great to have so many people turn up, and it was a really enjoyable to be able to discuss my research from the last number of years.
“So many people have helped me to get to where I am from both the University and beyond so it was nice to be able to say thanks in person and from afar.”
