School of Infection & Immunity

Prospective students mingle, browse stands, and talk with staff in the Sir Graeme Davies Building Common Room during the Open House event

On Monday, 23 February 2026, we welcomed undergraduate and postgraduate students from across the University of Glasgow to the Sir Graeme Davies Building for an Open House event offering a structured introduction to the School of Infection & Immunity.

Throughout the afternoon, attendees had the opportunity to observe ongoing research, meet fellow students and school staff, and gain insight into the academic environment that underpins our teaching and research.

The programme also offered a preview of future course and programme content, alongside information on progression routes and local opportunities for study and research beyond their current degree.

We are delighted to report that the event proved a tremendous success, with a post-event survey providing fantastic insights and overwhelmingly positive feedback.

One hundred per cent of respondents said they learned something new, whether about Sii research, their degree pathway, or future career possibilities.

Demonstrations in parasites, antibiotics/streptomyces, imaging, and bioinformatics were favourites, with students describing them as ‘fantastic’, ‘well‑led’, and ‘fascinating’.

Many students valued the opportunity to speak directly with researchers and staff, noting this strengthened their academic and career plans.

Several students told us the event sparked new academic interests, from bacteriology to bioinformatics.

There were a number of useful suggestions for improving the format, and we shall take these into account when planning next year’s Open House.
