Are you aware of the School of Health and Wellbeing Athena Swan Professional Services (PS) Mentoring Scheme? Would you be interested in supporting our SHW PS community to learn and grow together by sharing experiences and knowledge? We are recruiting new mentors to the scheme and encourage all PS staff to apply.

Mentoring is a great way to develop your skills. The goal is to help the mentee explore their own options and hurdles rather than solve any problems for them. A successful mentoring relationship results in a partnership where both mentor and mentee learn from each other.

I have found the mentoring relationship very rewarding and incredibly fulfilling.  It increases awareness of staff relationships and offers a valuable insight  into shared issues. It is very rewarding to be able to give some guidance and support when a staff member comes to you for advice on how to progress in their career or sometimes just for a friendly ear when they are experiencing something which is particularly challenging, and if you can help them to understand or have clarity, it is very empowering.  It is a really rewarding experience to guide someone to new opportunities and help them navigate the different stages of their chosen career path, and of course its also a perfect opportunity to have a chat and a coffee with someone new.
