The Optical Microscopy & Laser Imaging Research Facility provides light and confocal laser microscopy for geologic applications such as mineral and rock sample preparation, mineral identification, and high-resolution imaging of mineral structures, fission tracks, and surface geometries.
What we do
The Optical Microscopy & Laser Imaging Research Facility uses light and confocal laser microscopes to further mineral separation, pick suitable minerals for dating techniques, examine fission tracks, and determine the surface topography of grains for volume estimates of laser ablation pits. We provide access to our microscopes listed below for general use.
