The Iraqi regional cultural attaché in London had a meeting and celebration with high achieving students studying in the United Kingdom and Ireland on the 24th January 2017. The meeting was attended by Iraqi dignitaries, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq al-Issa, accompanied by Minister of Oil Mr. Jabbar Luaibi, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq, Dr. Saleh Al-Tamimi, and the Counsellor Attaché, Dr. Hassan AlAlak.

During the ceremony, postgraduate students who have published more than eight publications over the course of their studies were recognized and received an award. The work of Iraqi student societies, supporting students accross the UK, was also honored for their many achievements.

The total number of Iraqi student in the UK and Ireland is 2495 and around 30 of them currently pursue academic studies at the University of Glasgow.

70 students attended the meeting, while 12 of those received an award. Amongst the recepients were three PhD students from the School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow (figure right) and we add our congratulations to the awards they have recieved:

- Talib Al-Ameri (Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering - Device Modelling Group), supervised by Professor Asen Asenov.

- Mohammed Sabah Jarjees and Manaf Kadum Hussien Al-Taleb (Biomedical Engineering - Rehabilitation Engineering Group), supervised by Dr Aleksandra Vuckovic.
