School of Education pilgrimage to Rome

Issued: Wed, 01 Nov 2017 11:55:00 GMT

The Eternal City of Rome was the destination for a School of Education pilgrimage.  8 students from MEduc, PGDE and Community Development were accompanied by Fr Stephen Reilly, the Co-ordinator of Spiritual and Pastoral Formation.

They visited all the main sights, such as St Peter's Basilica and dome, the Sistine Chapel, the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps.  The Roman food and drink were sampled, including ice cream at the famous Giolitti's.  Each day Mass was celebrated in a different outstanding location, with  the Catacombs of St Sebastian and the tomb of St John Paul II particularly memorable.  A highlight was the audience with Pope Francis, during which the Pope drove right past the group, a fantastic photo opportunity.  The group returned to Scotland with many wonderful memories and new friends.  In May, 31 students and 3 staff also took part in the second Rome pilgrimage of the year.  Many thanks are due to the School for their financial support.
