Postgraduate Research in Catholic Education
The University of Glasgow is consistently ranked amongst the world’s top universities. Founded in 1451, its scholarly traditions are universally recognised. The St. Andrew’s Foundation for Catholic Teacher Education is the hub of the University of Glasgow’s commitment to offer teacher education provision for those interested in Catholic education.
The School of Education warmly welcomes PhD applications on a full or part-time basis from candidates keen to engage in research in the rich field of Catholic education. There are many Catholic schools, colleges and universities across the world and this international network needs committed and well qualified teachers, school leaders and policy makers.
You might currently have a research proposal, or even just an initial idea for exploration. If so, and you are keen to develop it, a PhD could be the way ahead for you. We are keen to recruit students to work in the following areas of study:
· the philosophy of Catholic education
· the history of Catholic education
· education and the Catholic intellectual tradition
· the role of Catholic schools in a plural society
· religious education in the Catholic tradition
· the broad field of Catholic studies
· issues related to Catholic leadership.
Doing a PhD requires commitment, drive and dedication. In return you will be given an unrivalled opportunity to explore primary sources, critique established thought and offer creative insights into contemporary challenges. Supervisors will support you at all stages of study, from helping you to set out your initial objectives to giving guidance in the final stages of study.
