Modelling & Experiments in Drug Delivery Systems (MEDDS)

Venue

The workshop will take place in the James Watt South Building, marked A1 on the campus map. Note that the entrance to the building is from the South Front.

Registration

Registration will take place on the entrance floor (level 3) of the James Watt South Building.

Workshop Dinner

The workshop dinner will take place at Hilton Grosvenor Hotel on the evening of Tuesday 4th September at 7pm. Delegates are expected to make their own way to the Hotel, which is a 10 minute walk from the conference venue.

Accommodation

We have agreed special rates with Fraser Suites (Glasgow City Centre). Fraser Suites are able to offer the rates of £80 per night for a Studio appartment and £95 per night for a 1 bedroom appartment, including continental breakfast. These rates are subject to availability and so early booking is advised. To book at these rates, delegates should contact Fraser Suites directly and quote "MEDDS Workshop, University of Glasgow".

There is an extensive range of alternative hotels in Glasgow, covering all budgets, both in the city centre and the West End where the university is based. The University can be reached from the city centre via a short subway ride.

Buses

First Glasgow Bus routes 4 and 4A stop directly outside the Main Building from the city centre. Other routes serve Dumbarton Road, Great Western Road and Byres Road. See First Bus website for timetables and journey planner http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/glasgow/

A seasonal tourist (open top) bus stops at the University (generally departs from George Square in Glasgow city centre).

Subway

This is a very safe method for travelling around Glasgow and is very useful for travelling in and out of the city centre. The nearest subway station to the University is Hillhead Station on Byres Road (approximately 5 minute walk from the University’s main building). On exiting Hillhead station, turn left onto Byres Road then take a second left onto University Avenue. Further information (inc. any service disruption) is available from http://www.spt.co.uk/subway

Local trains

The nearest suburban rail station is Partick, approximately one mile west of the University. It has an interchange with the subway and with bus services on Dumbarton Road. Further information is available from http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

Taxis

Black Taxis can be flagged on the street or reserved by calling: + 44 (0)141 429 7070 (Glasgow Taxis http://www.glasgowtaxis.co.uk/). Black taxis can also be found outside Hillhead Subway Station. Please note, private hire taxis cannot be flagged on the street and must be booked in advance.

Before You Arrive

Insurance

As with all travel, delegates are strongly advised to ensure they have sufficient insurance in place as they will not be covered by the University of Glasgow’s insurance or the insurance of any of their associated partners.

European Health Insurance Card

(Please note section is applicable to European Economic Area citizens only)

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) replaced the E111 card and allows European Economic Area (EEA) citizens* to access state-provided healthcare in all EEA countries and Switzerland at a reduced cost or free of charge. Applying for the EHIC is free and the cards are valid for up to five years (if you already possess an EHIC it is important to check it is still valid). The EHIC is NOT an alternative to travel insurance. It will not cover any private medical healthcare or the cost of things such as repatriation or lost/stolen property. For these reasons and others, it is important to have both an EHIC and a valid private travel insurance policy.

Wi-Fi and IT

The University of Glasgow has many wi-fi hotspots throughout the campus. We suggest that you access this service using Eduroam: https://www.eduroam.org/. Eduroam is a secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. This has to be issued in advance at your 'home' institution. At the University of Glasgow it is provided as a broadcast wireless network available wherever there is wireless coverage. For those unable to access Eduroam we recommend the GUVISITOR wireless network, which is available to all registered delegates. You will shortly receive 2 emails from the University’s IT Service. A temporary username and password will be included in the emails for use during the workshop. It is very important that you retain a copy of this information for use during your visit to the University of Glasgow. Speakers

Speakers are strongly advised to bring their presentation on a USB stick and should visit the presentation room to upload their talk as early as possible (during the break prior to the session that contains your talk at the very latest). Workshop organisers will be on hand to assist with this. If speakers wish to present using their own computer, this should be communicated at registration. Please note, we cannot guarantee that MacBooks and any Apple software can be supported.

Posters

At registration you will be advised where to set-up your poster. Velcro fixings will be provided and no other fixings (e.g. drawing pins) can be used as this will damage the boards. Posters should be in place before the first session of the day. Please note printing facilities are not available on campus.
