Permanent Parking Permit scheme to begin on 1 September

On 1 September the University’s permanent Car Parking Permit Scheme will be reintroduced, after it was suspended in April 2020 during the early stages of the pandemic.

This means that the temporary arrangements whereby daily and monthly permits could be obtained by all staff members living over two miles from our campuses will finish.

Applications for permits were open over the summer, with successful applicants informed earlier this month.

Colleagues with special circumstances can still submit applications outside of the permit applications window.

There are more details on the scheme and enquiries can be submitted on our Car Parking webpages.

Operating Arrangements

The scheme will operate between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday. Parking outwith these times will continue to be free of charge and will not be subject to any permit. Operational staff whose working hours overlap slightly with either the start or finish time of the parking hours will not be required to purchase a permit but will need to register their vehicle with the Parking team (parking@glasgow.ac.uk).

All car parks will be monitored on a daily basis and checks will be carried out on all vehicles parked in University parking facilities. If a space is being used by a vehicle for which there is no permit, then the owner may be served a parking charge notice.

We must continue to ensure that the campus and all parking facilities are safe for pedestrians and other users so cars MUST be parked in marked parking bays.

Visitor parking will continue to be provided under the terms of the current scheme, with bookings payable online either by card payment or by budget code.

Please note that we are continuing to promote and support active travel options, including installation of more bicycle storage facilities on campus; in addition, your attention is drawn to the Cycle Plus scheme.
