The Library offers membership and services for graduates of the University of Glasgow and graduates of other universities, as well as corporate membership for businesses, schools, charitable bodies, museums, law firms, theatre companies, and many more.

The following benefits are available to all Alumni, Special Reader and Corporate members.

Access

Borrowing entitlement

  • Borrow up to 30 items at any one time
    • Maximum of 2 from High Demand
    • Maximum of 10 from 1-week loan
    • Borrow most other books for 4 weeks (subject to recall)
  • Renew your loans up to 5 times, if they are not needed by another user
  • Request items on loan
  • Login to your library account to renew or reserve material
  • Receive due date reminders if you register your email address with us

Support

  • Get help with general enquiries
  • Get help for detailed subject queries from our College Librarians
  • Got a quick query? Ask at the Welcome Desk on Level 2

Other facilities

  • Self-service - borrow and return
  • Request something we don't have
  • A self-service photocopier is available
  • Use of microfiche/film readers to consult microforms in the library's collections

Graduates - Alumni Membership

As a graduate of the University of Glasgow, you can join the library as a General Council member. The annual membership fee is £40.00.

How to join

  1. Complete our online membership application
  2. We will ask you to submit proof of graduation, proof of address, and a photo
  3. We will send you a secure link to pay your membership fee
  4. You will receive confirmation when your access card is available for collection, along with a welcome letter

Graduates of Other Universities - Special Reader Membership

Graduates of UK Universities

Special Reader membership is available for a fee of £60.00 per year. 

How to join:

  1. Complete our online membership application
  2. We will ask you to submit proof of graduation, proof of address, and a photo
  3. We will send you a secure link to pay your membership fee
  4. You will receive confirmation when your access card is available for collection, along with a welcome letter

N.B. Anyone who has received confirmation from Suzanne Hartley should submit their application as ‘Other Special Reader’ and include their acceptance email with the supporting documents.

Corporate Membership

Corporate membership is available to staff of businesses, schools, charitable bodies, museums, law firms, theatre companies and many more. Corporate Membership provides access to one of the largest academic collections in Scotland. The library has a book stock of almost two million volumes and thousands of printed periodicals, covering most academic subjects.

Please note: Due to licensing restrictions, we are unable to offer access to our subscription databases and electronic journals.

Subscription rates

  • £150 per year for three named members
  • £75 per year for three named members for educational or charitable organisations
  • £25 per year for each additional named member

How to join

  2. We will ask you to submit photos for each named cardholder
  3. We will send you a secure link to pay your membership fee
  4. You will receive confirmation when your access card is available for collection, along with a welcome letter
