These items can be consulted in person at the Research Annexe by making an appointment with us. Alternatively you can book a virtual consultation appointment to view the item via Zoom.
The Library Research Annexe (LRA) contains important research material not in high demand. The collection holds runs of older journals and books as well as other materials including Parliamentary papers, microfilms and newspapers. The LRA plays a vital role in storing valuable research material in a safe and secure environment. It has excellent on-site consultation facilities and parking for visitors.
When you conduct a Library Search you may find items located in the LRA. If you would like to borrow the items you need to submit a request form . There is also a link to this form in your search results. The requested items will then be sent to the Main Library for collection from the level 3 hold shelf. It will be held there for one week before being returned to us.
Reader requested LRA material is delivered to the Main Library once per week, on Fridays. Material requested before 4pm on a Thursday will be included in that weeks delivery. Any requests made after 4pm on a Thursday will be included in the delivery on the subsequent Friday. Some items are not available for loan and are available for consultation only - these items can be consulted in person at the Research Annexe by making an appointment with us. If the item that you have requested is only available for consultation, we will let you know by email.
Sometimes it may be more appropriate to visit the Library Research Annexe to use the materials in our collection instead of having them sent to the Main Library. For example, if you wish to consult large and heavy volumes or several volumes of a journal it may be more convenient for you to consult on-site. Or perhaps the Annexe is simply a more convenient location for you to access – in which case you are welcome to visit to use our materials. Please note that we do not have a photocopier available for visitor use, so photocopying of LRA material can only be done in the Main Library. If you would like to visit us, please contact us by email or phone to make an appointment and we will be happy to assist you.
