Parking Frequently Asked Questions
How long is a permit valid for?
Permits are valid for 12 months (1st September to 31st August) and MUST be re-applied for each year within the permit application window which is communicated to all staff. If you apply for a permit within the permit year your permit will be valid for the remaining months of the permit year ie. apply for a permit in April, your permit will be valid from April to August.
Temporary Mobility Permits are valid for the duration of time agreed with Occupational Health.
I didn’t know I had to apply each year. What can I do if I have missed the application window?
It clearly states that permits are valid for a 12 month period in the Terms and Conditions that you agreed to. We cannot offer you a new permit unless you meet the criteria to applying outwith the permit application window.
I was unsuccessful last year, can I apply this year?
Yes. You can apply for a permit every year, regardless of the outcome.
Is there help available for colleagues who need assistance in making an application?
If you are unsure with any part of your parking application, please contact us by emailing carparking@glasgow.ac.uk where we will be more than happy to guide you through the application process.
I am contracted to work on both campuses. Which campus do I apply for?
Please contact carparking@glasgow.ac.uk for more details. We will be able to advise colleagues on an individual basis.
I am a Blue Badge holder. Do I still have to apply for a permit?
Yes. Blue Badge holders (staff and students) are still required to be registered on the permit system.
You will be required to provide a copy of the front and back of your valid Blue Badge to support your application.
What provision is made for temporary mobility issues?
In cases of temporary or short-term health issues where an applicant is expected to make a full recovery, we can issue a temporary permit of up to 12 weeks maximum.

Can I apply for a parking permit and participate in the Cycle to Work Scheme?

Who can use the Lilybank Gardens Car Park?
Lilybank Gardens Car Park is available only to Gilmorehill Standard Permit Holders who have been authorised by the Parking Team and issued with a valid Lilybank dashboard permit.
Standard Permit Holders may choose to park at Lilybank Gardens instead of on campus, but by doing so they give up their right to park on campus. If you would like to change your parking location, please contact the Parking Team.
If you hold a Standard Permit, you cannot park at Lilybank Gardens unless you have received prior approval and have been issued with a Lilybank dashboard permit by the Parking Team.
Occasional Parking Permit holders are not permitted to use this car park.
All authorised users will be issued with a dashboard permit by the Parking Team. This permit must be clearly displayed in your vehicle at all times. Failure to display a valid permit may result in a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) being issued by Glasgow City Council.
Please note that:
- Dashboard permits are vehicle-specific and cannot be transferred to another vehicle.
- The vehicle registration displayed on the permit must match the vehicle parked in the car park.
Important: Lilybank Gardens Car Park is enforced by Glasgow City Council, not the University of Glasgow. The University is therefore unable to assist with the issuing, appeal, or cancellation of Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs).
Can I park on Lilybank Gardens pay and display parking bays?
No. The parking bays on Lilybank Gardens itself are not part of the permit scheme and are managed by Glasgow City Council.
You will be issued a penalty charge notice if you park in the pay and display bays at Lilybank Gardens unless you have paid to park using the Council's pay and display machines.
