Extensions and Good Cause

COURSEWORK DEADLINE EXTENSIONS

You should contact your academic school about good cause and extensions.

If you don’t think you will be able to meet a deadline which has been set for coursework, on the day of the deadline you should email your Course Coordinator or Course administrator and request an extension on health grounds, which they can give you at their discretion for up to five working days.  You can inform them you are registered with the Disability Service and that your late submission is related to your disability - details of which are under the health information tab on My Campus.

NOTE:  The five-day extension refers to work days only and does not include weekends.

If you areunable to submit within five days you need to submit  GOOD CAUSE

If you have any questions about Good Cause, please contact your academic school. The Good Cause form can be found on My Campus.  Good Cause requests need to be submitted within seven days of the deadline agreed by your School or subject area. As part of the Good Cause application, you will need to submit written supporting evidence of a flare up or an exacerbation in your symptoms.  Written evidence can be provided by a Doctor, Mental Health Adviser or Disability Adviser. It’s best to ask the person you have had most contact with during the period of time you have experienced the flare-up/exacerbation in symptoms which has led to you not being able to attend to your studies. Please remember that declaration of disability or mental health condition alone is insufficient evidence for ‘good cause’.

Your Good Cause submission will be considered by a committee of academic staff within your School who will inform you of the outcome.

EXAMS

If you are unable to sit an exam on health grounds, you need to complete an absence form with supporting evidence and upload it onto My Campus. If you sit your exam but feel that you under-performed due to health-related issues or other mitigating circumstances, follow the same procedure as for the Good Cause application for coursework, as outlined above. This must be done within 7 days of the date of the examination. It will be at the discretion of the Board of Examiners how to respond to the information you submit.
