Support and Resources
The Graduate School is responsible for providing a range of support to all of our Postgraduate Research students.
- We run a portfolio of skills development opportunities throughout the year. These comprise of workshops, conferences, visits by guest speakers and other events.
- We support and encourage student-led activities, including the on-line journal e-Sharp.
- We manage academic project funding which facilitates postgraduate research activities.
In addition to the support provided by the Graduate School, our postgraduate students can access the many other support services provided by the University, including the Careers Service, the Students Representative Council, and the Researcher Development Unit.
Study space
In addition to the quiet and group-work study spaces provided in the library, postgraduate students in the Graduate School of Arts & Humanities have designated study space located in the Alexander Stone Building, 16 University Gardens, on the top floor. This is a quiet study area open 24 hours, with facilities which include: flat screen networked computers and printer facilities, tea/coffee making facilities and lockers. You can access this space using your student card.
The Graduate School also manages a small number of dedicated office spaces available for doctoral students. These are allocated using a waiting list system and an email will be sent out to all PhD students mid-October each year to register interest.
Many of the Schools and Subject Areas also provide hot desks and office spaces for their postgraduate research students. Please contact your school office for more information on these spaces.
