The Study Abroad programme is designed for visiting students who wish to study at the University of Glasgow for a semester or year as part of their undergraduate degree programme.

At Glasgow, you can choose from a range of courses. This allows you:

  • a broad academic experience
  • the ability to match your study abroad options with your home degree programme.

We also offer unique courses specifically designed for our Study Abroad students.

English Language requirements

All students whose first language is not English and who are currently not being taught in English at their home institution may be required to submit an IELTS, or similar, test with their application.

English Language requirements = IELTS 6.0 with no subtest less than 5.5

Please refer to the English Language requirements for all accepted English testing options

Pre-sessional English Language course

If applicants have lower language test results then it is possible to apply for an English Language pre-sessional course before beginning the Study Abroad programme.

Visa information for travelling via Ireland

IMPORTANT - Nationals of the EU, EEA, Switzerland, USA, Japan, South Korea and other non-visa nationals  travelling via Ireland

It is important to understand that if you arrive in the UK from elsewhere in the Common Travel Area (CTA), including the Republic of Ireland, there is no immigration control on arrival in the UK where you could be issued with an official entry clearance on arrival.

However, you will in most cases automatically have permission to be in the UK for six months. You should keep evidence of your travel (flight booking/e-ticket/boarding pass) to show to the University when completing registration.

If you have already obtained a visa before leaving your own country, you can enter the UK via the Republic of Ireland without any issues.
