Abstract

A natural question to ask regarding quantum symmetry is which mathematical objects admit faithful actions of compact quantum groups. We then say that these objects have quantum symmetry. In this seminar, I will introduce the prerequisites needed to understand this question. Subsequently, I will recall Simon Schmidt's criterion, which is a sufficient condition for a finite graph to have quantum symmetry. We will then generalise this criterion to the setting of arbitrary C*-algebras. If time permits, using recent results of Christian Voigt, we will apply this to the circle, which admits quantum symmetry.
