Abstract

Cardiac digital twins (CDTs) are a conceptual modelling framework centred around computational models of cardiac function. We aim to use CDTs to quantify patient-specific pathophysiological mechanisms and inform clinical decision making. This talk will outline some of the key statistical challenges in the development of CDTs and the application of complex computer models in general. Using atrial fibrillation and pulmonary arterial hypertension as motivating examples, we will discuss cohort-aided transfer learning for Gaussian process surrogate models of individual patient physiology, and methods for real-time parameter calibration of cardiac models using emulators, approximate Bayesian computation and amortised inference via neural posterior estimators.
