Abstract

Tarski developed the theory of type semigroups for group actions as a tool for studying phenomena such as the Banach-Tarski paradox. We will discuss how to generalize this theory to etale groupoids. This leads to a dynamical version of dichotomy theorem known for classifiable simple C*-algebras -- they are either stably finite or purely infinite. (based on a joint work with Ralf Meyer and Akshara Prasad)
