Abstract

The Baum-Connes conjecture is a central problem in noncommutative geometry, with deep connections to topology, operator algebras, and geometric group theory. After a brief introduction, I will survey several recent developments due to a number of researchers, including permanence questions for group extensions, progress for real rank-one Lie groups, and new results on strong bolicity for relatively hyperbolic groups. I will then conclude with a discussion of recent joint work with Nansen Petrosyan.
