Line configurations and 4-manifold topology

Abstract

After a brief introduction to line arrangements and configurations in the combinatorial and geometric settings, we will introduce the notion of topological realization which leads to questions in 4-manifold topology. We will recall previous results on non-realizability by Ruberman-Starkston and then discuss improvements via different techniques both in the topological and the smooth category. These improvements include results from joint work with Duncan McCoy and JungHwan Park, as well as another project with Marco Golla.
