Abstract

Professor Peter Stewart will be giving a talk on Why Should I Attend Seminars?

As a PhD student, academic seminars can sometimes feel like a pointless exercise, particularly if the topic is not well aligned with your PhD research. This session will explore the importance of attending seminars for your career development, the potential benefits and approaches to networking with experts from other institutions (both when they come to us for seminars, but also at academic conferences). This will be an informal, interactive session, so please come along and share your experiences.

Zita Fülöp will be giving a talk on How to Communicate and Collaborate Beyond Mathematics

This talk is about taking action: stepping outside your comfort zone, reaching across disciplines, and turning your ideas into impact. I will share my experiences and journey into the medical world: from attending inspiring conferences and participating in the Three Minute Thesis competition, to winning a mobility scholarship, the Science Slam, conference prizes and independently securing collabortions with two hospitals. Along the way, I learned to communicate beyond equations and I'll share my recipe for how I did it.
