Abstract
In this talk (aimed at non-experts), I strive to explain how algebraic number theory, representation theory and algebraic geometry are all intertwined in the context of the Langlands program. More specifically, I will explain what Serre’s conjecture is about, and how it has been generalised, and proved(!) in many cases in my forthcoming joint work with F. Diamond, in the setting of (geometric) Hilbert modular forms.
